In the week from 6 to 10 May 2019, an exchange took place within the framework of the GeoCIRCLE project. Eight pupils from the Kreisgymnasium St. Ursula in Haselünne (Lower Saxony) came to us in Hamburg to work together on a project. In this context, we received the following assignment from the school management:
"Plan a project that can be implemented several times and that helps to make our school more climate-friendly. This is intended for the pupils who do not take part in the Fridays for Future demonstrations, but who nevertheless want to support environmental protection. As many members of the school community as possible should be involved."
We then developed our projects in groups and in the end three great ideas emerged, such as building four raised flower beds for the inner courtyard between two buildings to plant food for the goats we have at our school.
Of course we also did other things to protect the environment and went on excursions. On Tuesday the organisation OpenSchool21 gave a workshop called "Limits to Growth". We also visited the Tauschhaus - a place to donate and swap used belongings - in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. On Wednesday afternoon we rented a so-called GreenKayak and pedal boats and went through small canals near the River Alster and collected garbage. That was a lot of fun, although it rained in between. Check out #Greenkayak to find more information.
