Students design advertising campaign for the “European Week of Waste reduction”

Yet again students of our Gymnasium have dealt with the topic Circular Economy during this years Erasmus Project. They had one week, to develop a “concrete advertising campaign for the European week of waste reduction 2020 for the city of Haan, to raise awareness among the citizens”. For that they were asked to think of an “appealing advertising concept” as well as a “practically feasible event”. This should draw the people of Haans attention to the topic of waste reduction and sensitize them for this topic.

“It was a very complex and challenging Assignment”, was the common opinion of all participating Students. Especially because of that it is remarkable, what the 14 Students from the year 10 and 11 of this years Geo-Circle project accomplished within a week. Although all three presented results of the self-foundeded agencies “Clean Green”, “@ME” and “Trash Mash” were all individually different from eachother they were all highly creative and well thought out. Weather it was an Upcycling project in art class of the years 5 to 7, individually painted and sprayed trash cans, distributed all over the city or information booths during the “Haaner summer” a local fair, where they would provide not only information, but Live-music, a tombola and sustainable meals for tasting to raise additional attention. The students not only convinced the client with their ideas, but with their thoroughly thought through concepts. Carme Viehmann, Waste-consultant for the city of Haan, was amazed by the results. As well as Peter Clement from the local newspaper “Rheinische Post” was full of praise and convinced, that the quality of the results “could even challenge and be compared to professional advertising agencies”.

We can all be excited, which effect the implementation of the winner-concept of “Clean Green” will have on the municipality and the school. As an additional reward the winning group will have the opportunity to show their concept at the Erasmus meeting of all participating Schools in Leeuwarden.

The work of the other groups wasn’t for nothing as well. Miss Viemann promised: “Ich will discuss your concepts with all other Waste-consultants within the county of Mettmann” Maybe the other concepts can be realized by one of the other cities around.
