Students from Marne College Bolsward made their own circular company’s

During the schoolyear 2018 - 2019 a large group of students worked in the GEO Circle project. Below a report written by one of our students.

After the GEO Circle project at the end of 2018 we went over the subject again for the 3th graders, and in February 2019 for the 4th graders. This time through starting your own business.

In February we set the project in motion. The project was different for the M students then for the N students. An employee of the local authority introduced the M project. The assignment was to start our own company with the groups we already had made. The company´s had to advise the local authority or the school. The ultimate goal was: a circular economy.

Our company, AB Green, is an international company established in Bolsward. The director of the company Yoran Slager advises the local authority together with his co-workers with the motto: No red and linear, but green and circular. The company makes an action plan for the local authority about the changes on short and long term. Thereby there will be thought about the possibilities of the local authority. With little but quick changes there can be done something about circular economy.

The N students got the assignment to build a house from sustainable products. The students got a lot of freedom in the creativity of the designing the house. We also got the possibility to visit the Eco park the Wierde in Heerenveen. Waste is a resource and the Eco park handles it very carefully. After the dividing of waste it will be sorted and in the end recycled. Prior to the tour you get a short presentation about the projects that Omrin does. Also your knowledge about circular economy will be brushed up. After this brushing up and the presentation you get a tour through the Eco park.

At the end of the project all the groups present their plans of the company in front of the local authority and the principal. After the presentations there is a possibility for the guests to ask questions to the company’s and to show the scale models of the houses.

Many students will have been made aware of their part in the circular economy. It is important to repeat this project over and over, to give students more knowledge about circular economy so they can spread the message.
