Marne Project - GEO Circle

This year a group of 53 students worked on the GEO Circle Project. We worked with 2 clients: Marne School Facility Management and Dijkstra Draisma Bouwgroep (https://bgdd.nl/contact/). Our students worked on 2 assignments: Marne College - How te be more circular and Dijkstra Draaisma - circular housing in the future. On this page we will share some contents of the projects.

Our students of 4HAVO (pre exam year) have been working on the project from early february and had to finish the projects in Corona Time. We were very happy that we made the IVN method available in Its Learning (ELO), so there were little problems to finish the project.

Below a description of the project by one of our teachers, Petra Oudejans.

During the GeoCircle project students were challenged to explore ways in which our future society can function and grow in more sustainable ways meaning more climate friendly whilst stimulating a circular economy.

One cluster of students was asked by construction company Dijkstra-Draaisma to design a sustainable house or office building and another cluster of students was asked by Marne college to come up with ways to take the building and its “inhabitants” to a greener level.

The students set out to start their own consultancy firms (complete with CEO, logo, business card etc) and got busy with gathering the information they needed to come up with good advice and solid plans. Lots of information was found online, but in addition target groups were interviewed, experts were consulted or came in to offer master classes as well.

After several weeks of hard work numerous out-of-the-box ideas were executed, 3-D models were built, reports were written and recommendations were offered to the clients. Via this link we show a report written by a group of students.

Thanks to the GeoCircle Project the students not only increased their knowledge on circular economy and sustainability, but also got to cultivate and evolve their 21st century skills.

Job well done.
