In the school year of 2018/19, our GeoCircle club was established as we learned in the previous year that it’s difficult to implement all ideas and activities in regular Geography classes.

Our students from Year 8-12 received a visit by our principal Mrs. Müller at the beginning of the school year and were given the assignment to “make the school community more circular”. In the following months, the students established different consultancies and came up with various ideas, including:

  • less paper waste: posters in faculty room to make teachers become aware of paper waste generated by photocopies
  • less plastic waste: introducing reusable whiteboard markers
  • educating Year 5/6 students about circular economy and reducing waste in short workshops at the end of the school year
  • creating raised garden beds for “Lynda’s Garden Club” with individualized wooden plates by each class in order to feed the school goats and make the school community become aware of sustainable behavior (idea generated in our Project Week/exchange with Haselünne)

… and many more!
