The Geo Circle project investigated and promoted internationalization combined with regional development. All secondary schools in the project cooperated with regional associated partners, like governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations. These external partners were also introduced to foreign students during their Geo Circle exchange project weeks in another country. In this way, it was clear that ‘circular economy’ is an important topic all over Europe.

In 2018, Geo Circle organized a conference about ‘internationalization’ in Leeuwarden (Netherlands). During the event, Mr Sander de Rouwe, the regional Frisian Secretary of education, stated that in the near future 'every student should be international competent' (see Annexe). Also Mr Robert Coelen of the Stenden University Research Group Internationalization of Higher Education, added that it is 'vital to make young people world citizens'. The findings of this multiplier event and discussions with all Geo Circle partners have led to a brochure about the importance of 'Regional education and Europe'.
